This student is from India where there is no gambling.

Manasa a student who had just turned 19 this year had opted out of going to the local TAB and casinos and stopped online gambling. She started gambling just last year when she turned 18. In here you can gamble when you turn 18, but in India it is illegal to gamble.

She is currently studying  Fashion at RMIT.

She is away from her parents in India and for the first time has all the freedoms in the world. Her parents send her money once a month. She was lonely at the time.

On her 18th birthday some of her local friends took her to the Casino just to try her luck. Little did she know that she'd become addicted like so many other international students. Like many she did not want to leave the casino.

She kept coming back.

She lived in Derrimut where it is known for its pubs and clubs many of them which have TAB's. She also did online gambling. She kept going to her local TAB's rather than studying. In the end there were more losses than wins. She wanted to win so much money, but in the end lost $30000.

Because she kept on visiting the casinos at night she slept during the daytime and missed a few classes and handed things in very late. In the end she was almost kicked out of RMIT for unsatisfactory progress, but won her case. She also could not pay her fees at that time.

When she was asked to Show Cause for the second time she decided to seek some help from the Gamblers online site and come clean to her parents. Her parents were angry that she'd spent so much of their money for her on gambling rather than education. She moved out of Demurrit into the lovely suburb of Yarraville and got herself a job working as a barrista in one of the coffee shops there. She also came clean to her school about these problems and was made to repeat subjects. She quit gambling and now she has more money in her account.

The lessons learnt are:
* Do not gamble
* If you are depressed seek help rather than gamble.
* Don't live in areas where there are lots and lots of TABs . It is not worth the temptation. If you don't see it, its out of mind
